The watchtower on Snead Island at Emerson Point park is accessible by kayak from Clambar Bayou. Thanks to Google Maps we have this bird' eye view, and thanks to Charlie Hunsicker and the staff of the Conservation Lands Management Department we have this park with it beaches, paths and watchtower. Also there are Indian mounds which there are boardwalks and information boards arounf the mounds that give visitors a chance to see and learn about the area's history close up. As you kayak from the Tarpon Canal, paddle left through Clambar Bayou toward Emerson Point. along the shore you will notice a dock in the mangroves with steps for access. You can tie up your kayak here, then climb to the boardwalk and take the path top the watchtower. Be careful, the steps are very slippery. If you have time, you can walk for miles along the the park's many trails. To find the tower turn right one you exit the boardwalk, then left at the first trail intersection you come to. The trail crosses a bog via another boardwalk and widens into a shell path. As the path begins to climb the mound, go right and then left at the intersections you get to. A kind of zigzag up to the steps. See the detailed photo below. |
