A Flounder Pass eco tour can include A trip through the mangrove tunnels in Mill's creek, a swing past Bird Key and an interesting paddle to the east of the pass among the mangroves leading to Miguel Bay. This area has some great fishing and birding opportunities. The Southern entrance to the pass is marked with a large boating speed limit sign. You will find the pass marker near the shore Flounder Pass is a well used channel for motor boat and caution should be use when navigating this area. Exploring the many creeks and canals will take around 2.5 - 3.5 hours of paddling. You may have to adjust paddling times if conditions are wind, because you will have to cross Terra Ceia Bay. Just to the West of the South entrance to Flounder Pass there are a few smaller bays that often contain some really big fish like Snook and Redfish. East of Flounder Pass along the shore of Terra Ceia Bay there will be an opening in the mangroves and just inside on the left (NW) the creek winds up in Miguel Bay. If you read this and know of what some of these creeks were/are named let me know, I'm working on maps of these areas. Sometimes, especially afternoons in the summertime, winds can be very strong on the bay and sometimes shift when thunderstorms approach. Caution is urged and use of your lifejacket is highly recommended. |
